Taveuni Estate Dive

This trip we only had two days to go diving in the Somosomo Straits. We were greeted on the beach in front of the Rainbow Reef Resort by the smiling face of Tiko, our dive guide from Taveuni Estate Dive. With nearly twenty years experience diving the area, Tiko selected for us the best four dive sites which included the famous Great White Wall, Yellow Tunnel, Fish Factory and Rainbow's End.

After only five minutes, we were at the Great White Wall which is covered in luminescent white coral starting at about 100 feet and dropping into the deep. If you were staying on the island of Taveuni, depending on weather, it would take between 30-45 minutes to reach the dive sites from their dive shop up near the airport. Staying at the Rainbow Reef Resort is a luxury and one of the prime reasons why Richard and Kari Stiers, our hosts, chose the resort location.

Taveuni Estate Dive also dives the Northern outer reef areas, including Motui, Ringgolds, Nanuku and Miller Reef. These are a much longer ride and are all-day tours. Their dive boat, "Divers Reef," is a 28-foot custom built fiberglass boat designed for a maximum of eight divers. It has a canopy and a small ladder. When there are only four or less divers, there is adequate room for cameras. They generally do a two-tank morning dive, returning for lunch.
