Come Experience the Magic of Maravu |
The Maravu Plantation Resort is one of Taveuni's top places to stay. The island can be easily reached by air from Nadi and the resort is only 5 minutes from the small airport. It is conveniently located halfway between all of the island's land-based attractions.
Built on the site of an old coconut plantation, the 54 acres are beautifully landscaped with lush tropical gardens, swimming pool and colorful walkways. Maravu fullfills its Fijian meaning of "calm and tranquil."
Taveuni's fertile soils create a lush jungle island befitting the name, The Garden Island. Maravu's knowledgeable staff will lead you to the most beautiful flowers around the island.
Add to this Maravu's Nouvelle Fijian cuisine, secluded, luxurious, traditional-style bures and very friendly staff and you have all the makings of a top vacation. |

Maravu Resort is tucked away amongst 56 acres of coconut groves, lush jungle gardens, tropical rainforest and a golden sandy beach. Taveuni Island is the home of owners Jochen Kiess and his family who feel a deep love and respect for Fiji. The resort has ten luxurious traditional-style bures facing the tropical sunset. Each bure is beautifully decorated with Fijian artwork and paintings. Bures have a queen-size bed covered by a white mosquito net canopy. There is no air-conditioning in the bures, but you will feel cool beneath the tropical ceiling fans. Maravu's Wananavu restaurant prepares delicious nouvelle Fijian cuisine, as well as other International dishes. Chefs de Cuisine are Kai and Nika, artists in creating the perfect blend of local and International fare. They cater for any diet requests.
The resort has its own organic vegetable and herb garden. There are also bananas, papayas, pineapples and other exotic fruits which grow throughout the plantation.
The highlight of the evening, while eating a relaxed meal or sitting in the warm and cozy library, is the beautiful music of the Maravu Bandboys. They play Fijian songs sitting on woven mats around the kava bowl. Enjoy Charly, a very talented musician and Sai, whose voice is especially high and clear. |

There are also five thatched-roof bungalows, three secluded honeymoon bungalows and a duplex. All of the bures and bungalows are spread around the plantation to ensure the guests' privacy. All are a short walk to the restaurant, swimming pool or the beach below. There is a massage therapist available who will give you a traditional Fijian style massage in the health and beauty bure.
Their staff of forty will know you by name and guide you into any activities such as horseback riding, snorkeling, mountain biking, tennis, golf, kayaking, deep-sea fishing, world-class diving and guided 4WD tours.
In the library you will find a good selection of books about Fijian culture, fish identification books, local Fijian medicine, flowers and bird life. After a day of diving, the marine life books were put to good use as we took our afternoon tea and cakes. At the end of your stay, you will be presented with a salusalu (flower necklace) around your neck while everybody is singing, clapping, and playing guitar. Last minute souvenirs can be found in their boutique stocked with select carved artwork and elegant resort wear. |

Taveuni offers the largest variety of water and land-based activities of any of the Fijian islands. Its rich natural heritage provides ample opportunities for the nature lover. |
| Adventure Treks and Island Eco-tours |
Maravu offers many guided tours that help you discover hidden waterfalls where you can swim in the natural water basins, hike jungle trails, view spectacular bird life, photograph unique flowers and dive the marine fantasy world of brilliant soft corals.
Maravu's 4WD Landcruiser will take you up to Taveuni's second-highest peak (1200 metres), Des Voeux Peak. From there, you can take jungle trails to the volcanic crater, Lake Tagimaucia (pronounced 'tang-ee-mothe-ia'). Between late-September and late-December, the Tagimaucia flower (tagimocea) is in full bloom. The flower grows only in Taveuni and only at the high elevation around the lake. The Bouma Falls Trail takes you up to three spectular waterfalls with wide vistas of the ocean and islands below. The Lavena Coastal Walk is a 3-4 hour walk through a rainforest that hugs the coastline. It passes by the small settlement of Naba and the Wainisairi River that drains Lake Tagimaucia with a beautiful swim to a waterfall. |
